The wait is over! Canonical has announced the much awaited Ubuntu 20.04 LTS through the official channel and updated it’s download section with 20.04 ISOs.

It is a long term support release with a support window of 5 years. Continuing it’s practice of code-naming each release, Ubuntu 20.04 is being called Focal Fossa.

Along with these Ubuntu 20.04 features, the latest release include Secure Boot to protect again low level attacks and Fast ID Online for multi-factor and passwordless authentication.

WireGuard VPN is included by default and there’s a plan to backport it to the last 18.04 LTS release. Not to forget the various security and performance enhancements it brings, Ubuntu 20.04 is going to be bigger and better!

If you are planning to try it first before installing or upgrading your main system, you may try installing Ubuntu 20.04 in Virtual Box first. This is what the Mark Shuttleworth, CEO of Canonical had to say about the new release.

“Accelerating open source globally is our mission. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is the new state of the art open source platform for the enterprise and the entrepreneur. We bring together thousands of contributors and the world’s largest technology companies to make Ubuntu 20.04 LTS the standard reference platform for secure cloud and edge compute.”

Mark Shuttleworth, CEO, Canonical

Official download repositories are now listing the 20.04 ISO image, you can grab one from there.

Some of the users prefer waiting for the first point release of any LTS. This allows the developers to fix most of the bugs and what they get is a much polished Operating System.

However, if you are running out of patience like me, go for it and do share your experience in the comments with our readers.
